Managing Director of St Andrew’s First Aid Training and Supplies Ltd (United Kingdom)
Michelle is Managing Director at St Andrew’s First Aid Training and Supplies Ltd, a social enterprise whose goal is to generate profits for reinvestment in the parent charity’s activities. The company operates in a competitive marketplace selling first aid supplies and workplace training to businesses enabling them to meet their health & safety requirements.
Michelle joined the social enterprise in 2013, after what had been a difficult period for the organisation, turnover was £1.4 million and it was carrying a £140k deficit. Michelle’s leadership and organisational skills along with the dedication of her team and board helped deliver exceptional growth. The last financial year the turnover rose to £2 million and since she joined the social enterprise it has generated a net profit of over £1 million which has been gift aided to the charity.
In the last two years the organisation has been recognised as a finalist in the Scottish Social Enterprise Awards and was Highly Commended at The UK National Business Awards.
Previously, she held senior positions within the media industry; television, press and magazines and as a director of a Scottish charity. These experiences helped her develop her interest in how innovation and entrepreneurship could make a difference in the third sector and how there can be tangible and definite benefit for embedding this model in social enterprises.
