Chief Squirrel of Squirrel (New Zealand)
At 33 years of age JB was a senior executive of NZ’s largest retail bank. He loved banking, but the insatiable drive for profit left him disconnected from his personal values. Something had to change, and that change was the birth of Squirrel at the height of the GFC in 2008. It was a humble start as a mortgage broker; one that paid its staff salaries and not commission. Now, Squirrel writes over $1 billion of mortgages a year and has its own technology focused peer-to-peer lending start-up. At Squirrel, we want to put more money in people’s back pockets. We believe that if you put people before profit, ultimately good things happen.
