Helianti Hilman is the forefront promoter in sustaining Indonesia’s food biodiversity heritage by introducing and bringing indigenous food products from across Indonesia to the broader market. Ms. Hilman graduated Cum Laude from Padjadjaran University, Bandung, majoring in International Laws. In 1998, she completed Master of Laws on Intellectual Property Rights at Kings College, University of London.

Inspired by Indonesia’s wealth on food biodiversity, indigenous wisdom and spiritualism, in 2008, Ms. Hilman left her work as consultant and founded PT. Kampung Kearifan Indonesia, known also as JAVARA.

JAVARA champions artisanal and organic food products from rural Indonesia that has specific origin and cultural relevance. Working across agricultural value chains from production to distribution and branding, JAVARA aims for premium quality and standards. To date Javara works with over 52,000 farmers across Indonesia, producing over 700 artisanal products of which 240 already certified organic, serving over 300 retailers, hotel and restaurants within the country and export to 19 countries in 4 continents.

Its unique positioning in champion food-biodiversity products from rural Indonesia build the strong branding of Javara. Javara has become the pride of nation and often referred as one of the Indonesia’s ambassador for nation branding. In 2014 Javara recognized by Forbes Magazine as one of 20 Global Rising Star, awarded the Government of Indonesia with Anugerah HKI (Intellectual Property Award) for the category of Brand Owner and in 2016 the company receives Primaniyarta Award from the President of Indonesia on the category of Pioneer on the New Market.

To further systematically outreach Javara efforts in nurturing entrepreneurship among smallholder farmers, in 2017 Ms. Hilman launched Javara Academy (School of Food Entrepreneurship for Farmers). The academy will serve as the food hub for start-up incubation centers for transforming farmers into food entrepreneurs. Pilot project is now running in Bekasi (outskirt of Jakarta) and Flores island. The hub is aimed to be self-sustained through sales of products and services. Outreach expansion will be done through franchising.

For her work, Ms. Hilman has been recognized nationally and internationally. She was awarded as Social Entrepreneur of the Year by EY Indonesia (2013) and Schwab Foundation for Social Entrepreneurship (2015). In 2014 she was recognized by Forbes Indonesia among The Inspiring Women Honor Roll and in 2016 by Top 10 Asia as one of Indonesia’s top social enterprise.

Ms. Hilman is globally recognised as a notable expert and resource person in the area of indigenous food system, natural farming, food and spiritualism, and social entrepreneurship. She has spoken in many prestigious events in Indonesia and around the globe.

Ms. Hilman will be in New Zealand as a ASEAN Young Business Leaders Initiative (YBLI) delegate and a guest of the Asia New Zealand Foundation.
