Board member of ActionStation and Director of LEaD Centre for Not for Profit Leadership (New Zealand)
ActionStation is a young progressive, member-funded, digital community, supporting people powered change in Aotearoa New Zealand. By our third year, ActionStation members had collected 400,000 signatures for more than 100 petitions, made 10,000 individual submissions to Parliament, sent 30,000 messages to decision-makers (by email and phone), and raised $330,000 (with an average gift of $23). We have been part of campaigns that have won (sometimes) partial, but important gains in funding for public radio and mental health services, encouraging Kiwisaver funds to reduce investment in armaments, helping increase the public profile of child poverty, and in drug law reform. Last year we launched a new platform, OurActionStation, that allows members to run their own campaigns.
LEaD specialises in organisational and leadership development to help the not-for-profit sector and its people really make a difference for good. The team at LEaD has worked with over 9,000 people in 700 not-for-profit organisations throughout New Zealand, Australia and the Pacific, since 1996. Garth is particularly involved in consulting, training and research on non-profit governance, community development, adaptability & change, strategy, organisational ethics, advocacy, volunteering, philanthropy, contracting, outcomes, and evaluation.
