Member of the Scottish Parliament and Cabinet Secretary for Communities, Social Security and Equalities at the Scottish Government (Scotland)
Angela has been a Member of the Scottish Parliament since May 2007 and is currently serving as a member of the Scottish Cabinet, the main decision-making body of the Scottish Government.
She was appointed as Cabinet Secretary for Communities, Social Security and Equalities in 2016, having previously served as Minister for Youth Employment, Cabinet Secretary for Training, Youth and Women’s Employment and Cabinet Secretary for Education and Lifelong Learning.
Since her appointment in 2016, Angela has been a keen advocate for the social enterprise sector, working to enhance Scotland’s world-leading ‘eco-system of support’ and, most recently, by launching Scotland’s first-ever long-term social enterprise strategy, entitled ‘Scotland’s Social Enterprise Strategy: 2016 - 2026’.
Angela was born in the history county of West Lothian and, prior to being elected, worked as both a social worker and a mental health officer in her home town of Livingston.
