Founder of 2021 Social Enterprise (Taiwan)
Just like most young people in Taiwan, Alan (Hsong-Yu) left his hometown for Taipei to study and, eventually started his own business there. However, the disastrous damage and loss of life caused by Typhoon Morakot in 2009 prompted him to give up his career in Taipei and returned to his hometown with grief. At that time, he took the position as the director of the Xiaolin Village Self Help Association and Restoration Association, determined to work with the villagers to rebuild their homeland. Four years later, he founded "2021 Social Enterprise," aiming to use the local featured produce—green plum—to help boost local economy with an integrated industrial supply chain. With the support from angel investors and other entrepreneurs, "2021 Social Enterprise" successfully provides a duplicable and sustainable success formula for both after-disaster restoration and solutions for improving the livelihood of remote tribes.
