Social innovation is the process of designing, developing and growing new or existing ideas, products, services, strategies and organisations that work to address unmet social needs. It is a hybrid discipline and borrows from a range of practices, theories and models. Design thinking heavily influences the innovate change model of social innovation. Design helps us identify opportunities at the intersection between: the goals, motivations and needs of users; professionals; organisations and systems. It gives us practical tools for working out how to respond to those opportunities in creative ways. It is easy for us to focus on ways of doing - the methods. This workshop will explore what social innovation is, and touch on some of those methods, but will spend most of the time exploring ways of being - the mindsets necessary for social innovation to occur and thrive.
The session will use highly participatory processes commonly used in our social innovation practice.
